As I have mentioned, I love technology and I use it on a regular basis in my personal and professional life. Having the opportunity to work at a 1:1 laptop school has provide me the chance to explore hundreds of different softwares and web applications that make learning fun and engaging while also allows for more collaboration, professionalism, and efficiency in communication. I use certain tech tools on a very regular basis including DyKnow for collaborative presentation and note sharing and TI 84 graphing calculators in my Algebra 1 class. Beyond these daily tools, students are asked throughout the year to engage in projects that involve video and audio recording, web development, blogging, researching, and presentation tools. Below you can see 2 of the many examples of student work involving technology in my classroom.
This first video is a part of our "Video Tutorial Project" in which students work in pairs to produce an educational video on a given math topic. The one below is an example that includes a nice selection of the tools they used for this project: screen capturing software, video editing software, powerpoint, and TI-84 screen capture software. (unfortunately it lost a little quality when I uploaded it so apologies if the image/sound cuts out anywhere)
Another example of tech integration that I explored this year was the use of blogs and e-portfolios in my Algebra 1 course. In the first month of school I experimented with assigning reflections, concept questions, and challenge topics for students to reflect on via a blog post on their personal webpages that we created in class. As the school began to move towards more official all-subject e-portfolios in the same year, this project lost steam but I like this as a great way to showcase student work and provide an easy way to have students reflect and allow me to comment/collaborate via this forum.
